Fladene Gard
Pinnkjøtt, pinnebog, fenalår and other cured meats.
Description
Fladene Farm is located in Hegelstad in Bjerkreim, and consists of approximately 9000 decares, most of which are mountains with good grazing and hunting areas. The farm is a family farm that has been passed down through generations. Today, it is Anne Pearl and Baard Gravdal who are the operators. Fladene Farm has specialized in products made from spælsau. The farm has a herd of 250 winter-fed spælsau, and 11 breeding animals of Scottish Highlands cattle.
The farm is committed to ensuring that the animals are as comfortable and natural as possible. The spælsau and lambs are allowed to roam freely in Rambjørheia from May until mid-September. Here, the farm has its own shepherd's cabin so they can supervise the animals during the summer. Spælsau enjoy being on the highest peaks and eat a very diverse natural diet while grazing.
When the lambs return to the farm, some are selected for slaughter and further processing at the butcher. The farm has a long tradition of offering pinnekjøtt, pinnebog, and fenalår made from spællammene.
In addition, the farm sells bjerkreimsnabb sausages; a tradition that Anne Pearl has taken over from her father. The sausages are made together with Svindland in Sira.
The farm is focused on utilizing all resources. Wool that cannot be used for yarn production is offered as natural ground cover for vegetable gardens and flower beds. This keeps weeds and snails away while also adding nutrients to the soil as the wool breaks down.
The products offered by the farm can be ordered in the online store of Fladene Farm. The farm is also often found at the Farmer's Market, fairs/markets, and in the Christmas Town in Egersund.
