From Bjordal to Kvitlen in winter

In 2023, Kvitlen was Norway’s 10th most popular tourist cabin on ut.no. If you visit the cabin during winter, there’s a good chance your stay will be particularly peaceful.

Kvitlen Tourist Cabin

The tourist cabin is beautifully situated on a ridge overlooking Kvitladalen. The river, winding past with smooth rock slabs and small pools, glistens in the large windows facing the valley, bringing all the natural impressions into the cabin. The hike from Bjordal is likely the most popular route, in addition to being the shortest path to the cabin.

Hiking Description

In winter, parts of the red markings may be covered by snow. Therefore, this hike is recommended for those who are comfortable navigating by map and have some mountain experience. Crampons and snowshoes can be very helpful depending on snow conditions.

The shortest route to Kvitlen starts from Bjordal at the innermost part of Ørsdalen. The first part of the trail from Bjordal is steep and can be somewhat tricky. The trail continues up the forested Sogstøllia, one of the most protected birch forests in the county with a primeval forest character. After the trail junction towards Eikebrekka in the west, the trail passes two streams and reaches the farm house at Brattebø, whose ruins testify to settlement and activity in earlier times. The last part follows the watercourse to the suspension bridge about 300m west of the cabin.
