Fladene Gard

Pinnkjøtt, pinnebog, fenalår and other cured meats.

Fladene Gard is located in Hegelstad in Bjerkreim, and consists of approx. 9,000 acres, most of which are mountains with good grazing and hunting areas. The farm is a family farm that has been passed down for generations. Today it is run by Anne Pearl and Baard Gravdal. Fladene Gard specializes in products from Spælsau. The farm has a herd of 250 winter sheep Spælsau, and 11 slaughter animals of Scottish Highland cattle.

The farm is concerned that the animals should feel as well and naturally as possible. The game sheep and their lambs are allowed to enjoy themselves freely in Rambjørheia from May to mid-September. Here, the farm has its own shepherd’s hut so that they can supervise the animals during the summer. Bighorn sheep like themselves on the highest peaks, and eat a very versatile natural diet while grazing.

When the lambs return to the farm, some are taken out for slaughter and further processing at the slaughterhouse. The farm has a long tradition of offering pinnekjøtt, pinnebog and fenalår made from the Spællams.

In addition, the farm Bjerkreimsnabb sells sausages; a tradition Anne Pearl has taken over from her father. The cured meat sausages are made together with Svindland in Sira.

The farm is keen to utilize all resources. Wool that cannot be used for yarn production is offered as a natural base/ground cover for vegetable gardens and beds. You then keep weeds and snails away, while the wool adds nutrients to the soil when it breaks down.

You can order the products the farm offers in the Fladene Gard online store. The farm can also often be found at Bondens Marked, fairs/markets and in the Julebyen in Egersund.
